The Social Disconnect
George: Mummy, I made a new friend at school today!
Mummy: That’s wonderful! Wow, you made a new friend on the first day of school! A boy or a girl?
George: (incredulous) A boy, of course!!!
Mummy: What’s his name?
George: I don’t know.
Mummy: You didn’t ask him? Well, maybe you could find out tomorrow.
George: (puzzled) Why?

Good for him! I always prefer to avoid using names because I’ll be darned if I can ever remember them! He’ll learn a valuable lesson: Everyone is “You” or “That Guy” and eye contact will avoid the awkwardness normally caused by forgetting!
Hi M–it also shows what we consider important and what some children consider important!
I always find it so interesting to see how children’s priorities rank. Of course a name is insignificant. But it was definitely a boy he was playing with! LOL.
George isn’t quite ready for the whole “networking” thing yet, is he? Kids do have different priorities, I guess…and sometimes they make me chuckle.
I’ve seen that before.
Is this something you’ve posted earlier or something you’ve come across?
