How’s your binging?
Binging? Or is that bingeing? They both look wrong. The first looks like it should rhyme with ’singing’, and the second has too many vowels.
I think it’s bingeing, though. Like singeing? (Except that looks wrong, too…) I could just find the damned dictionary, but inertia rules. This laptop is so heeeeavyyyyy…
As I suspected, with far less time to read this year, I am churning my way through fewer books. I also made some crappy choices at the library last week. Some weeks are like that.
The first was odd: it lost me by page 90, but there were some loose ends I was curious about — though not curious enough to slog my way through the intervening 321 pages — so I hopped over to the last chapter. And was so astonished and fascinated by what I found that I had to go back to page 90 to find out how on earth she’d gotten from there to here.
After that, it was a terrific read, though I confess I would skip through two or three pages here and there to keep the pace up.
The second started off dryly humourous, I thought, but turned out to be strictly in earnest and, as such, earnestly boring. I read the first 55 pages, then bounced in to read a page here and there, then read the last chapter. Yawn.
I’m currently 72 pages into “Bread and Dreams” by Jonatha Ceely. (No, that’s not a typo. Jonatha.) So far, it’s the best of the lot.
That’s my binge, so far. How’s yours?

I’ve read three books–not too bad! (Well, I was halfway through one when the Binge started.) Two were good and one was meh: a “humorous” book for women that wasn’t that funny. At least I only paid 25 cents for it at a garage sale!
What was that first book? Sounds interesting.
Mine is going very slowly right now. I finally got back into a book I started several weeks ago, but I’m not done yet. I do have a fairly ambitious stack of books lined up for the rest of the month, though…wish me luck!
I finally finished my first book just this morning. Likely because it’s Mother’s Day and I got to stay in bed and have coffee brought to me.
At this rate though, I might just beat my standing record of three books. By one or two maybe, but still progress is progress.
Happy Mother’s Day to All.
I started out with a doozy…I’m usually a stupid fast reader (devouring one or two a day, unless I’m busy, then it’s more like one every two days) but this time I think I’ve met my match…I’m reading “The Feminine Mystique” by Betty Friedan. I’m about 3/4 through it. Fascinating, but not something I can just whip through.
Two down so far - better than I expected!
I started with a bang… then I started parallel reading - now three books in various stages of unread - and oh; im shifting homes this week, so doesnt look like I can get anything done soon….
I’m working through three currently. They are segregated by spot. One lives in the bedroom, one in the living room and one at work. We’ll see which one gets finished first. I do believe my list will be shorter this year. I’ve got many more demands of “mama read this” this time around. I think Jeffrey has realized that while Dada is quite exciting when he reads a book, Mama is the real book hound in the family. I will almost always stop and read a book with him. Hopefully he’s learning what a joy all of his books can be.
I’m at book three and I’m halfway through. The first two were rereads - Maeve Binchey books. The third is one I picked up this morning - ‘The Tenth Circle’ by Jodi Picoult and so far it’s pretty good. I’ve been working around a husband being gone a lot so lots of personal reading time is eaten up by that.
You may have noticed that I haven’t even managed to put the banner up yet. But I have been reading when I can. Sadly, not as much as I’d like.
So fat I haven’t read any of the books that I intended to, but I have read 3 others. Some of the kids I teach are reading and reviewing books that have been shortlisted for the Shefield Children’s Book Award and I’ve been allowed to join in.
I haven’t put the banner up yet but I am reading like crazy. Mostly books that are light enough to hold in one hand while feeding the baby. One good thing about the postpartum blah is the desire to escape into a good book (getting laid off also freed up some time!). I am on book eight and loving every minute of it.
