It’s Not All Mary Poppins

What I Got for Christmas

There’s always one gift that stands out from the rest. The book was great, the calendar funny, the wine glasses pretty and much-needed, and the hinged seat for my piano bench will be hugely useful (when it’s finished, Adam), but it was this one that will be The Gift of 2006.

Lovingly handcrafted by Haley, we have…

Sock Monkey Mary.

  12. The ninja-look is very becoming, and I highly doubt that your skills as ninja-nanny at your facility are anything less than samurai-worthy, grasshoppa…!

    Happy 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Best monkey ever! The posture holding the monkey child on the hip is exactly right.

  15. Ninja, huh? I hadn’t seen that. In fact, the dark body and the white on the face made me think of a monk or a nun, in robes. Similar idea, I guess. (The photo doesn’t show the monkey’s white butt. Guess the ninja/nun/monk is mooning the world while nurturing the children.)

This was not the only sock monkey in the house this season, either. Emma got one, respledent in ringlets of blue ribbon and a silky red muumuu – because Emma has curly hair and the best fashion sense; Adam got one in a t-shirt emblazoned with “Undead Monkey”, from the movie; my sweetie got one with a dragonfly on the front, because he loves dragonflies. Diligent, thoughtful, and creative young woman, my daughter!

But this was MY favourite! 🙂
