It’s Not All Mary Poppins

Why I haven’t blogged much this week…

One of the mothers: You’re looking better today.*

Me: I’m wearing makeup.**

Mum: It’s very effective.

Me: Thank you. It’s my disguise.

* I’ve had The Cold that Would Not Die for two weeks now, complete with the Lauren Bacall throat – not necessarily a bad thing – the Niagara Nose and the All-Night Tickling Cough – definitely not good. The sleepless nights have added a sepulchral shade of blue to the hollows beneath my brown eyes, nicely set off by their reddened rims – which matches the red of my poor chafed nose. For at least a week, I have looked, as my gran would have put it, like the wreck of the Hesperus.

** I wear makeup during working hours a few times a year. This particular mum has likely never seen me in the stuff.

  1. I hate, hate, hate the All-Night Tickling Cough. I will literally over-numb my throat with Chloraseptic just to get a few short winks.

    Feel Better Soon!!

  2. I have a friend who always wears very bright lipstick when she feels crappy. She’s right; it does distract one’s eye…

Barriere brand of silicone diaper goo is JUST the thing for protecting Niagara Noses from chafing. Seriously. You have to be a bit patient since it doesn’t rub in immediately, but it is SO worth it.

I hope you have some chicken soup & brandy on hand, and anything else that might help you get some good rest and feel better!

  3. Puffs Plus with Lotion are the best facial tissues for a sensitive nose. We only bring out the box when someone is really sick because they feel slimy when you’re healthy. When your nose has been running all day though, they are a Godsend.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  4. you haven’t blogged much because you’re in disguise? that makes no sense – the whole point of the blogosphere is that you don’t *have* to disguise yourself! 😛

okay, i’m kidding. i’m sorry to hear about the cold. i have a bad one myself, so i feel your pain. am soooo looking forward to a lazy weekend.

The kids have that hollow pale look, I’m swearing that my garlic and vitamin c tablets among others will keep me safe! ‘Tis the season to be poorly, tra la la la la, la la la……

  7. Tater and Tot: Last night it was only the two-hour Tickling Cough. This is improvement! Maybe tonight it’ll be down to ten minutes.

Robyn: Thanks. Chicken soup – check. Barriere diaper goo – Never heard of it. I’ll look it up next time I’m in the pharmacy. Brandy – Ick. Never did develop a taste for the stuff.

LadyM: I remember seeing those when I lived in NY State. I don’t know if I’ve seen them here in Ottawa – but that might only because we tend to buy the cheap ones. And now my poor nose is paying the price for that economy! So, I’ll add to Robyn’s suggestions – Puffs with lotion.

Lara: I envy you your lazy weekend. Mine is filling up fast, darn it!

Jenny: I wake up with a backache most mornings. But sensible people, who don’t do in their backs falling over baby gates probably don’t suffer so…

ktjrdn: I am starting to feel better. Even though my weekend will be busy, I will still get to sleep in a bit and maybe even have an afternoon nap. I do love to sleep. 🙂
