It’s Not All Mary Poppins

Today’s Mystery… Updated and Revealed…

dancingboy.jpg

Here we have a sweet, quiet, apparently solemn little boy. Any guesses as to what he’s doing?

Hints:
1. No, he’s not been sent to stand in the corner. This is not a punishment.
2. In fact, it’s entirely voluntary, and, appearances to the contrary, he’s quite happy.
3. He can continue this activity for up to an hour, occasionally a little more.

I leave it with you…

Karly guessed it, and ktdjrn found the cheat —

The boy is dancing. He requests music – specifically The Beatles – then stands immediately in front of a speaker, a solemn look on his face as he sways from side to side, staring into space.

He will do this for the entire length of the disk – so, an hour, hour and a quarter. It’s really quite amazing.

Sway, sway, solemnly sway…

  1. Good one. Um.

Peeing down a heating duct? No, too young, and that wouldn’t last an hour… maybe just letting his hair blow in the warm air from a duct?

    Scratching himself on the doorframe?

Listening intently to some music (are those CDs on top of the cabinet?)?

  3. Watching the kitten?

    Playing hide-and-seek (rather poorly)?

    Reading CD/DVD/Whatever those are titles?

    Listening to music?

  6. I was thinking about the peeing thing myself, but I don’t suppose he could do that for an hour. So, yes, waiting for the cat to come out?

  8. Is he staring at the cords behind the cabinet, trying to figure out how to pull them out?
    For hours?
Can you see the window from where he is standing?

  9. You are all so imaginative!

    Let’s see…

The boy’s still in diapers (he only turned two a month or so ago), so no peeing – or if he is, it’s well contained!

The kitten, sad to say, ran away before Christmas and despite his tag and his microchip, has not been seen or heard from since. So, nothing to do with the wildlife.

The window is across the room, over his left shoulder.

Not sleeping, no, though he definitely looks en-tranced, swaying lightly from side to side, his eyes focussed on nothing in particular. (But no kind of absent seizures, don’t worry! He’s quite aware and responsive.)

But the music thing? You’re onto something there… I’ll be back tomorrow.

  11. Is he watching his shadow?
Or perhaps a CD spinning, or making light reflections?
Always amusing when kids ignore all the toys we buy them and transfix on some everyday object.

  12. Have you alphabetized your cd collection to which he is happily singing the ABC song as he goes down the line?? Am I even slightly close??

  15. Oh no, I let my mouse hover over the picture while I was reading. I would guess from dancingboy.jpg, that he’s dancing. For an hour? wow. I’d love to have one of those kids.

  16. Oh, I have to admit as well that I found the cheat. 🙂 But, as soon as you said swaying, I could figure it out. However, my son doesn’t dance for an hour… just the length of the Curious George theme song. 🙂
