It’s Not All Mary Poppins

Spinning Mary’s Head Right Around

“Nigel, come out from behind the curtains, please.”
“NONONO! I NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!”

Wow. That Quiet Stair sure has made an impact on the boy.

“Nigel, buddy, that’s Anna’s water. Give it to Anna, please.”
“AGH!! NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!”

Which is odd, given that he’s sat on it maybe three times in the past month.

“Hey, Nigel. Timmy doesn’t like that. Let go of his shirt, please.”
“NO! NO! NO WANNA GO ON THE QUIET STAIR!!!”

For no more than ninety seconds each time. Two minutes, tops.

“Nigel, please stop banging the block on the table. It’s hurting my ears.”
“NO! NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!!”

The boy’s obsessed…

“Nigel, time to put that book away in the basket.”

“NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!”

“Nigel. Nigel, did I say anything about the Quiet Stair?”

“NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!”

“Nigel! Nigel, listen to me.”

“NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!”

“Nigel, I’m NOT sending you to the Quiet Stair. I just want you to put the book away.”

“NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!”

“Nigel, honey, all you have to do is put the book in the basket, that’s all.”

“NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!”

“Nigel. Look at me. Book.In.Basket. Now.”

“NO WANNA GO ONNA QUIET STAIR!!!!!”

NIGEL! Nigel, if you don’t stop all that silly yelling, you WILL go on the quiet stair. Enough!”

“I go onna stair?”

“If you keep yelling about it, yes, you will. Or, you can just put the book in the basket.”

“O-tay.”

He trots over to the book, picks it up from the floor, and drops it in the basket.

And then goes and sits on the quiet stair…

  8. I’m so glad you’re back!

Maybe Nigel kind of likes having the time to sit by himself and think, and compose himself, because he gets caught up in the action and just doesn’t pay attention to the rules?

  9. Hehehehe! Nigel is quite the character, eh? Shows ya how much he dreads ‘the quiet stair’ and knows exactly what it’s for and all; and yet, his naughtiness. Too cute. Just like a boy…

Welcome back, BTW. Sure did miss ya when you were out!

  10. sometimes they just really need that time out – but it is funny that his response to EVERY request was that he didn’t want to go there!

  11. It’s getting time for me to set up my own quiet star. Any advice? I have to get my husband on board with this. Let’s just say his family used discipline methods which I don’t approve of. He’s come around to my side, but still needs a little convincing.

  12. Wow, they really are weird little creatures, aren’t they? Even with the full and very clear ability to articulate things, mine has meltdowns that I just can’t fathom at times. I keep thinking it’s exhausting for both of us, and the whole thing is so easily avoidable, so what is UP?
