Book Binge is Back!
Some of you have asked about last year’s Book Binge, and wondered if I were hosting it again. And I said to myself, “What a great idea! I think I shall host a Book Binge again!”
Here’s how it goes: For the month of May, participants keep track of each and every book you read. At the end of the month, everyone will blog their list of books. Simple, no?
For simplicity’s sake, and to allow people time to hear about it and sign up if they want, we’ll start on Monday, May 5th. We will all publish our lists on June 1.
Other rules:
– You can include books you re-read, so long as you re-read them in between May 5 and 31.
– You may also include books you start but don’t finish, just note the page at which you gave it up. Something like, “Quit, page 47 of 322″.
– You may only include books you read aloud to your children if they are at least 125 pages long.
– Students may include textbooks (if they’re at least 100 pages long).
– Unless you have a visual impairment which precludes you from reading print books (in which case, it’s unlikely you read blogs), you may not count recorded books.
If you would like to participate, leave a note in the comments. On Friday, I’ll post a list of links to all participants.
AND, for all you lucky participants, we have these lovely blog buttons! There’s a small and a medium version. All you have to do is copy and paste the the following code into your sidebar or post.
For SMALL (125 pixels wide, suitable for a sidebar),
Copy and paste this code:
<a href="https://daycaredaze.wordpress.com/2008/04/29/book-binge-is-back"> <img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/185/437987938_6611104e47_o.jpg" alt="book binge" /></a>
For MEDIUM (240 pixels wide; your text will wrap to the right of the image),
Copy and paste this code:
<a href="https://daycaredaze.wordpress.com/2008/04/29/book-binge-is-back/"> <img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/185/437987932_48710a408c_m.jpg" style="margin: 0 10px 10px 0; float:left" alt="book binge" border="0" /></a>
(And if you, like me, are in awe at the way I have CODE on the blog, without it turning into the button and ‘vanishing’ the code, I can’t take the credit. This bit of playing with the browser’s head was devised by my devious sweetie. Isn’t he just so smart???)
I hope you’ll all join me. I’m pretty sure my list this year will be shorter than last year’s — but who know? I may surprise myself! Here’s hoping some of you surprise your own selves, too!
I’m in, of course, since I was one of the people who asked if you were doing it again…hehe.
And it shouldn’t be hard to surprise myself, I only managed three books last time, this time I’m aiming for a minimum of five.
Hooray! I’m in. I certainly expect to read more than last year, but last year I’d moved transatlantically on April 1 & had a baby on May 1, so life was a tad bit busy! Thanks for hosting it!
Definitely in! I’m struggling with so much negativity at work that this will be a welcome diversion! Yeah 🙂 Reading is such a great escape…thanks for thinking of this.
BookMama’s mama here – I read your blog through her blog!! (As a child care giver for over 22 years, I can relate to soooooo many of your entries!!)
Please count me in on the Book Binge. Last year I did one and read waaay too many books – since we were in Florida. But now we’ll be home, and I probably won’t have as much time to read.
But I’m ready!!
Meeeee! 🙂
Sign me up too, please!

I’m in! I wonder how this year will compare to last year. I’m pretty sure I read fewer books now that I read more blogs. 😉
I didn’t know about Book Binge before, but I’d love to participate! I love to read anyway, and find myself with a particularly tall stack of books to get at, so this is great timing.
Splendid – I’m in. I’ve got several books lined up and this’ll make sure I get on and read them all.
Count me in – this is just the push I need to clear the stack of books by my bed
This sounds good. I’d love to join in.
But I’m new here (just arrived via link at Z’s place), so I’m going to ask a stupid question. Does it have to be a whole book to go on my list? I read the bit about giving up at page 47, but what if I only read a couple of chapters of a text/information book (something I do quite often)? Does everybody else include this kind of thing or not?
I’ve not been asked that specific question before, so let’s see… Non-fiction is slower going than fiction, but it’s not as tough a slog as a textbook… If it’s not too fiddly, how about we count as a book every 200 pages of non-fiction you read?
I’ll give it a whirl. Since I utterly failed at April’s Script Frenzy, I might actually feel a sense of accomplishment by doing this.
I’d love to do this! Here’s hoping I actually have time to read something more than my textbook . . .
I’m another person who arrived here via Z. I’d love to join in. I have lots of books I want to read before June and this is just the push I needed.
What a great idea!
I’m all in. I’m not sure how well I’ll do as May is the busiest month we’ve had in ages but I can always find time to read.
Also I’ve already bought some new books in anticipation. Yay!
I keep a list anyway, so I’d love to play along! I’ve got good stuff coming up this month, too — a few reviews to do. Bonus!
I’d like to join, please. ^_^
I’d like to do it. I saw this on Florinda’sblog. Sounds like a good thing to do.
I’ll do it. I need to.
Is it too late to sign up? I’d love to join in!

Sure. Count me in, I need an excuse to read more books.
What a fabulous idea! I’ve posted this to my blog A Novel Challenge so you may get some more participants 🙂 I’ll be playing along and posting my thoughts on my main blog at http://www.caribousmom.com
I left a comment – but it might have been dumped into your spam folder because I gave you a link! I’m in…and wanted to let you know I posted your challenge to my blog which links all the challenges in the blogsphere!
I usually post about all the books I read and do a monthly wrap up anyway so I feel like it’s cheating but count me in too. I do have a lot of books waiting to be read so this will be the incentive to read instead of doing something else this month. Thanks.
I’ll be joining in! I can NOT wait to get started!
I’m in. This will be my first Book Binge. I can’t wait!
I’m in! Maybe it will get me back on track reviewing what I’ve read.
I’d love to join in!
I’d love to join as well.
I’ll try.

(page after page)
I want to join also. I am just starting my book blog so there is not much to it yet but there will be soon.
I am new at blogging, so I do not know how to figure out the blog’s address yet. I just joined the Yahoo! group A Novel Challenge, and they had a link to your challenge. At least I copied your small “button” address correctly! Every Summer my library has a 5 book minimum book challenge where you can follow the theme or just read 5 books. This year’s theme is time travel. Too bad I can’t read my Doctor Who books for this. It has to be books that are available at the library only. I will keep you posted. Judy in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
I’m in, I do that already. http://smsbookreviews.blogspot.com/2008/05/book-binge-challenge.html
How do I let you know when Im done?.I have put the button and is noting the ones Im finishing in my blog as a list..Is it the way it should be?
See my blog for Trixie Belden and the Mystery of the Whispering Witch by Kathryn Kenny. I read 84 pages of this 210 p. book, having begun it 3 days before this challenge started.

You can either go to my blog to see how pathetically I did (with the sordid details) or I can just tell you here. I read a grand total of 395 pages in 6 books, finishing two books and not able to complete the rest. But they are still in progress & I will eventually be done with them. Thanks for such a fun trip!
I only read 6 books. I have the habit of when a book is nearly due on renewal, I wil go to that book and leave the current book that I know that I will have more time to read and then after I am done reading the book that I do not have more time to read and when I am done with the 2nd book, I will go back to the first book that I am reading.
The 6 books are:
1st to Die by James Patterson
The Sunny Side by A A Milne
16 Lighthouse Road by Debbie Macomber
Out of the Silent Planet by C S Lewis
The Book of Samson by David Maine
Erec Rex: The Dragon’s Eye by Kaza Kingsley
I have posted comments/reviews for all 6 books on my blog at: http://intergalacticbookworm.blogspot.com/
Judy
I did really well based on my normal reading rate – I finished the last one on Wednesday and was tempted to find a short book to read to try and fit in another before the end of today but I couldn’t find one!
1. March by Geraldine Brooks
2. ADMIT ONE: A Journey into Film by Emmett James
3. The Sea House by Esther Freud
4. Maggie Again by John D. Husband
5. Through a Glass, Darkly by Jostein Gaarder
6. Hester’s Story by Adele Geras
7. Perfect on paper by Maria Murnane
8. The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
Oh and if you go here http://www.clareswindlehurst.com/bookreviews/2008/05/25/challenge-updates/ and scroll down you can read reviews of all 8 books 🙂
