It’s Not All Mary Poppins

ugh

Not a good day.

Took the day off because I am so tired I’m practically transparent. Don’t feel ill, just exhausted, but since there’s no good reason for this level of fatigue, I figure I’m sick.

And the guinea pig died this morning.

  1. So sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well and add to that my condolences on the loss of your furry family friend.

    Ugh, indeed.

    Hugs

Thanks. I’m better today (apart from PMS crankiness, which has gotten WAY worse these days), and I’ve tidied up the guinea pig stuff. Now we’re looking for a home for a rabbit cage (enormous), and the leftover alfalfa, wood chips, food, etc.)

  2. Oh, dear. Get better soon, Mary, and I’m sorry to hear about the guinea pig. It’s tough to lose a pet. How/what will you tell the kids?

When they ask, I will tell them the truth, that he died. Some of their families talk about heaven in that context, some do not, so I probably won’t go there. I will say that he was very old and very sick, and he died, that is, stopped living. Then I’ll answer the questions as they arise. So far, however, no one has noticed!

  3. Oh, I’m sorry to hear about your guinea pig. Hope that having a little more restful day will help you fight off whatever sickness you’ve got a brewin’.

I’m fine now, thanks. I must have a fairly robust immune system; things don’t keep me down long!

  4. seesh.. :((

take care… and sorry about the guinea pig… hope you can handle the kids reactions…

So far there’s been none! You know what they say about children being so observant? It’s nonsense. They notice quirky things, but they do NOT necessarily notice obvious ones! I’m not worried about managing it. Over the years I’ve seen toddlers through the deaths of a rabbit, several hamsters, two gerbils, one (two?) other guinea pig(s), a handful of wild birds … We’ll get through this one, too.

  6. Oh no! Sparky! That poor fuzzy creature will be missed.

Yup. Took him to the vet that morning, because he had been off his food for a couple of days, and was told he had a large tumor. The vet took him into the back room to rehydrate him, and came out shaking his head, saying in his opinion his prognosis was poor, that he might not live even a couple more hours. He was right. Poor Sparky died in my arms on the way home.

  7. Sad news about the guinea pig. Hope you feel better after your day off. Transparent can’t be good.

I do feel better, though with a trip to the vet who told me the poor thing had hours to live, it wasn’t exactly a restful day!
