It’s Not All Mary Poppins

Happy Birthday!

Eighteen years ago, as of the moment of typing, I was in labour. At 11:46 a.m., after a pretty much perfect nine and a bit hours of labour, I delivered a perfect baby girl, eight pounds, one ounce, blue eyes.

Here she is at four. Is that not the most freaking ADORABLE mop o’curls you’ve ever seen???

And here she is at 17 and 5/6. Still with the curls, but now they’re all grown-up and gorgeous. It’s the puppy who’s freakin’ adorable. 🙂

Happy birthday to my baaaaybeee… who is now an ADULT.

Wow.

  1. Oh, I don’t know; the young lady in the second photo there is still pretty adorable! Congratulations.

Thanks. I guess there are several sorts of ‘adorable’, aren’t there. She’s not “aw izzn’t she a iddle-widdle sweetums” adorable anymore. She’s a much more grown-up form. 😀

  4. There’s a Renault advert on TV at the moment and there’s a lovely woman in it who reminds me of your daughter. Every time I see it, i think of you, and her.

Happy birthday to the 18 year old. Great age to be.

I think so. She’s off to university in the fall. All the adult perks, except drinking. The age in Ontario is 19… though three km away, right across the river in the province of Quebec, it’s 18. Not that Emma’s group is the sort to go carousing. Much. 🙂

  5. I went into labor 10 years ago tomorrow morning (although, of course, she was born 37 hours later on the 14th). Mine also has curls like that, although hers are the color of wheat bread.Happy birthdays!

    Happy birthday to yours, too!

  6. My baby will never be an adult. He’ll snuggle with me and get belly kisses from me forever.

Because your baby is so young, I will indulge you in your fantasy… for a little while. Not to worry: by the time he’s approaching the Next Big Milestone, you’ll probably be as excited about it as he is. 😀

  7. Yes, the puppy is adorable, but your adult daughter is beautiful!

May adult life be kind to her.

Thank you. Yes, she’s moved past ‘adorable’ and well into ‘gorgeous’, by my (admittedly biased) reckoning. (‘She’ being Emma, of course…)
