It’s Not All Mary Poppins

And about time, too!

(For Better or For Worse, my absolute all-time favourite comic for at least twenty years, can be found here.)

  1. Excellent post! This is my all-time favorite comic strip too. I’ve been reading it since at least 1978 (I was 8!!) and love it. As soon as I read about Lynn Johnston’s plans to basically wrap it up this fall – including a love for Liz – I knew it would be Anthony. Hope they do the wedding and the whole nine yards before the strip goes to the “mostly retrospectives” format (which I am SO sad about).

  2. I love your blog Mary, but I have to disagree with you here! It’s one of my faves too (and certainly the one I’ve read the longest) but I don’t want Liz to end up with Anthony! Sure he shaved off that awful fuzzy mustache, but he’s still just so wishy washy and has no backbone. Liz deserves better than that. Also, both Elizabeth and Michael end up with their high school sweethearts? That is just too cheesy for me. I am also so sad about Lynn retiring. 😦

  5. BookMama: I was hoping it would be Anthony, but there were so many possibilities! (Elizabeth seeming to be able to reel them in like nobody’s business.) I started reading her when I was pregnant – what obstetrician’s office is complete without “David, We’re Pregnant!!!”?

AllknowingJen: We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one! I’ll take a gentle, kind, respectful man with a goofy mustache over a perfect exterior covering an arrogant, self-absorbed, jerk any day. (And she does have a tendency to fall for two-timers…) Wishy-washy? I don’t know about that. Perhaps it’s more that one woman’s ‘wishy-washy’ is another woman’s ‘patient and sensitive’.

Martha was Michael’s high school sweetheart. Deanna he knew from grade three. I think she punched him on the nose…

Prettysparrow: If you follow the links they’ll take you to the website where you can follow the strips daily, for free! (I don’t have a newspaper subscription, either.)

Chelsea: You beat me to it! (But I did put in the links for the fans among us.)
