It’s Not All Mary Poppins

So Who’s Who? Take a Guess!

Me: Where is Boy 1?
Boy 2: He’s sleeping on the kitchen floor.
Me: He IS? [looking into kitchen] Um, no he’s not.
Boy 1: Here I am!
Boy 2: Are you awake?
Boy 1: Well, what do you think? I have my eyes open and I’m standing right here.
Boy 2: I think you’re sleeping.

  1. hmmm. Not literal and pendantic enough to be Arthur. So it’s gotta be Darcy and George, right?

  2. Oh, Mary. Your kids sound like the most amazing people sometimes. 🙂

  3. I’m going to guess Boy 2 is Arthur, based on the stubborn and illogical stance. Boy 1 seems patient and logical — Darcy?

  4. I’ve gotta go with Arthur (you are TOO sleeping!) and Darcy, Little Boy Logic.

  5. My vote is for Arthur and Darcy. I had to go back to the May 23 post to be sure.

  6. Yeah, I was wrong. I just didn’t find Boy 2 as mindnumbingly irritating as I usually find Arthur. But Darcy, even playing a game, wouldn’t be so committed to his own reality in the face of fact. That’s Arthur all the way.

  7. another vote for arthur (boy 2) and darcy. Darcy is my favorite. Is it okay to play favorites?

  8. MsS: Beep! No, sorry, contestant number one. That is not the correct answer. But thank you for playing.

    Kat: They are!

Everyone Else: Congratulations! Yes, indeed: Darcy, boy logic, and Arthur, staunch denier of reality. Well done. Cookies all round!

Sassy: (Psst. He’s my fave, too. Shhhh… They’re all wonderful kids, of course, but there’s a certain sturdy sweetness to Darcy that just tugs my heartstrings. Truly.)

It’s okay – unavoidable, really – to have favourites. It’s just not okay to play favourites.

  9. That’s such a perfect way to describe Darcy – he’s so STURDY!

I adore that little boy! I want for him to never grow up and leave your blog – more sturdy Darcy, please! Also, Darcy is one of my favorite literary characters ever.

Arthur drives me nuts. How do you cope?

  10. Oh, I didn’t get to post my guess in time. I’m glad to hear that it was indeed Darcy, a staunch defender of reality!

I was so tired last night that I didn’t even finish my post before falling asleep. 🙂
