It’s Not All Mary Poppins

Choices, choices

Haley is here for the morning.

“Hey, Zach,” she consults with the boy. “What would you like to do today?”

Zach answers with a beaming smile.

“Would you like to… go to the park?”

“Yeah!”

“Would you like to.. go to the coffee shop and have a treat?”

“Yeah!”

“Would you like to… go to the museum on the bus?”

“Yeah!”

“Well, Zach. It seems you’re open to anything. But can you think of something you’d really like to do?”

“YEAH!”

“What’s that?”

“Go on an AIRPLANE RIDE!!!” Accompanied by much clapping and jumping up and down. Haley considers this carefully.

“How about the park, then?”

“Yeah!”

  1. Well, she did ask!

The first thing I learned about toddlers is NEVER ask an open question:-)

  2. Sounds like Zach either needs to get out more often or gets out a little too much!
    Too funny!!!
I’m hoping an airplane ride involves an adult laying on the floor lifting the child with their feet/legs…other wise this kid’s quite the little jet-setter?!?

  3. Zach is the one that loves airplanes right? Makes sense that that is what He would like to do!

Mary, I found your blog through MIM when you guest blogged in May. It has taken me all of this time to read from the begining to the present…I don’t like to start at the end of a book or in this case the middle (???) after all. I love your stories and like everyone else, I MISS DARCY!

  4. The park is so much better than an airplane ride.

  5. Mostly I was just amused by the fact that he was so excited at everything I suggested. Was I surprised by the airplane ride decision? Not. At. All. This is, after all, Zach we’re talking about.

  6. boy, Mary, you owe a lot of readers to MiM! Myself included!!

Hee. I want to go to the park and the musuem and the coffee shop and ride in a plane. Make it happen, Haley!

  8. Awwww, what a cutie pie he is! And so easy to please no matter what he REALLY wants to do. Me with Jordan? Yeah, that would end with me picking him up from his tantrum while he’s still screaming about the airplane I denied him…

  9. What a sweet heart … I love that he went for broke but still happily accepted the park. Those open ended questions will get ya every time!

  10. JM: This is true. Haley knows this, too, but once in a while…

Appleseed: He’s a jet-setter. He has two sets of grandparents on the east coast, about an hour’s flying time away, and the family will hop a plane for a quick weekend there quite routinely.

Homie2: Hello, and welcome! You read the whole thing, beginning to end? All 600+ posts? Wow. We miss Darcy, too. He’ll be back for a few days in September, but after that, no more Darcy. *sigh*

Peter: For you, maybe. For Zach? Weeelll… he’s a bit airplane-obsessed, our Zach.

Haley: That smiling face, and an enthusiastic, “YEAH!” to every suggestion. What’s not to like?

Sassy: One thing at a time, Sass! Gracious, you’re as bad as the toddlers. 🙂

Granny: He generally is a nice little guy. He was delighted to go to the park!

Jennifer: It was not too bad, because, though planes are his default position, he really wanted to do everything. Would he have thrown a fit for mom and dad, anyway? Oh, probably. 🙂

Sunshine: Given that he flies once every six weeks or so, the airplane ride idea wasn’t that far-fetched, at least in his experience. But, hey, the park’s good, too. He is a sweetie!
