It’s Not All Mary Poppins

meme or something for bibliophiles

Okay, all you booklovers out there, Bookmama and I have an activity for you. A fair number of you enjoyed the Literary Meme I did at the beginning of this week. But it was so arbitrary, and many of you who only had a fair-to-middlin’ showing on the list have probably read a TONNE of books that weren’t on it. Hardly right.

Clearly, we need a way to show our literary stuff in a truly personal way. So, here’s the idea: I’m proposing that, starting April 1, we start tracking everything we read for a month, and then, on May 1, we publish our lists. And yes, if you’re a student, assuming you’ll be doing any recreational blogging this month before exams, you can certainly include required readings and texts.

Anyone interested?

  3. Sure. I try to keep a running list anyhow. But I am a sloooow reader, so it won’t be a long one!

  4. I am in. I read like other people breathe. 🙂 When I have time that is. Currently reading “Human Resources in Canada” 9th edition. Gah.

Oh well. This course is almost done. 🙂

  5. Oh wow. That’s neat. In my pre-mom life there woud have been tonnes of books. Now, not so many. I’ll just watch and add things to my mental to-read list.

  6. Hm-m-m, maybe. First, I’m not all that well organized, so keep a list–I dunno. Maybe I could just toss them all in one pile, and compose my list from the pile at the end of the month.

Second, I read a lot of junk, and do I want to expose my low taste for all to see? We’ll see.

Third–would re-reads (I’m re-reading The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson right now) or partial-reads count? I often start things and don’t finish for whatever reason. Of course, that could just be included as info when the list is posted.

In any case–I’ll read others’ lists with interest 🙂

  7. I’m in. However, I admit that like Kate, my pre-baby list would have been much more prodigious. I’ll see how I do and maybe I can get some ideas for upcoming reads.:)

  8. Sounds like fun, but all we will have to do is exchange the contents of our last couple emails, given that I am so busy work wise, I will likely only be able to finish the ones I am reading at the moment, especially if there is an election any time soon. Colleagues are 50/50 split on that possibility though.

  11. I would be the student end of it… although most of our required reading is coming to an end this month. Exam period begins the 6th for me! But I cheat a little and read recreational stuff, despite my long lists of school reading. I will leave it unstated whether these other tidbits cause me to do less required reading or not…

But I will certainly keep track of my reading along with you all!

  13. I’m in! (My list might be shorter than my pre-mom days but having given up tv for Lent, I’m doing much better these days! I’ll just have to try to continue to avoid tv after Easter!) 😉

  20. OK – yes: add me to your list, although I cannot promise the list will be that extensive – it may force me into some more neglect of work and bringing work home…. So a good idea. I actually referred to your meme exercise in my latest blog. Have a look! Will add you to my blogroll
